Chapter 1  
Changes and enhancements  
Description  
CNX Release 1.3p1 (aka 1.3.1) is an incremental patch release and delivers no  
new feature functionality. It contains minor corrections to existing feature  
operation, and hardware compatibility enhancements only.  
Corrected issues  
Corrected Windows user authentication for extended character set.  
Added Windows XP firewall compatibility for FTP file transfers.  
Extended the name recording buffer from 1.5 to 3 seconds.  
Corrected the reply address used for conference booking emails.  
Enhancements  
Support added for 512MB CompactFlash cards - greenfield install required.  
Support added for hardware PEC 80-0153-00 rev 07.  
Note: CNX release 1.3 and earlier must not be loaded onto Rev07 or  
newer units due to firmware incompatibility that will result in failure of  
the system to boot. CNX 1.3p1 or later must be used on these units.

Chapter 2  
Updating the software  
Description  
The Update CNX Software tool in the Maintain CNX window allows you to  
install software updates to the Aastra CNX.  
The Aastra CNX software is packaged in a single file called “full_cnx.dra”.  
This file will update both the CompactFlash and the onboard flash firmware.  
You can place the full_cnx.dra file on your PC and use the Update CNX  
Software button to install the update.  
Procedure  
Use the following procedure to update your Aastra CNX software.  
Notes:  
1. After port upgrades and major software releases on the Aastra CNX,  
you must enter a new license key to activate the software.  
2. The CNX performs an automatic reboot as part of the upgrade process.

Open your Web browser and enter the URL for your Aastra CNX.  
Log in with a valid user ID and password.

Click the Maintain CNX tab in the Aastra CNX main window.  
Result: The Maintain Aastra CNX window displays.

Result: The full_cnx.dra file proceeds to download to your Aastra CNX CompactFlash card.  
You will be prompted to confirm that a reboot can occur. The reboot will initiate the upgrade  
process, which may take up to 15 minutes to fully update the onboard flash firmware and the  
compactflash root filesystem.  
You will be unable to log into the CNX webinterface until the upgrade is fully complete.  
Progress can be monitored using the serial console, if connected. When the upgrade is  
complete, the following message displays on the console:  
“Upgrade of the Aastra CNX is complete”.

Close and then open your Web browser and enter the URL for your Aastra CNX.  
Log in with a valid user ID and password.  
Click on the Maintain CNX tab.  
Result: The Maintain Aastra CNX window displays.

Updating the software

In the “Status” section, click  
and verify the following:  
There is sufficient disk space for the operation of the Aastra CNX.  
Note: The Aastra CNX requires approximately 35 MB or more of free disk space to operate  
properly. If there is insufficient disk space, click “CLEANUP CNX” to delete unwanted files on  
the CompactFlash.  
There are no PRI alarms.  
The Aastra CNX is accepting the following types of calls:  
PRI calls (including alarms on active PRI lines)  
SIP calls  
H.323 calls

Click the Permanent Conferences or Scheduled Conferences tab to perform the following:  
Verify that previous permanent and scheduled conferences are still present after the  
upgrade.  
Schedule new conferences with AND without a moderator to verify:  
- that conferences can be created successfully.  
- that moderators and users can join the conferences.  
After port upgrades and major software releases, enter a new license key using the procedure  
defined in the Aastra CNX Administrator’s Guide, Chapter 5, the section “Entering/editing  
License Key.”  
Note: If any of the steps in the previous Update Procedure results in an  
error, contact your reseller for help first. Alternatively, you can contact  
Aastra Telecom Technical Support.
